Description:
There are currently 37 Cell and Gene therapy agents (CGT) approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration. In the past five years, the approval of CGT agents has accelerated with four thousand more in various stages of research and development worldwide. Traditional medicine is changing and the healthcare industry is entering uncharted territory. In the past, we relied upon small molecule chemical medications and large molecule biologic drugs. With the completion of human genome mapping, and the discoveries of RNA and CRISPIR/Cas9 platforms, cell and gene therapies have arrived at the bedside, especially for oncology and rare diseases. Cell and gene therapies therapies are considered to be at the forefront of innovation and transforming how we treat and potentially cure certain diseases such as Sickle Cell Disease. This presentation aims to educate healthcare learners on the innovations of CGT research to maximize care team efforts to advance patient outcomes.
