Course Description:
There is an assumption that individuals with HIV should not be breast/chestfeeding infants to avoid transmission. Many HIV positive patients do not ask for guidance, assistance, or support in decision making regarding infant-feeding based, leaving health care workers to assume they would rather supplement with formula. Presenters will share the evolution of infant feeding for those with HIV and present the latest guidelines for supporting these individuals. Attendees will learn strategies to assist HIV positive individuals on how to make informed, supported, uncoerced decisions on infant feeding.
