Caesar Luo, MD
Caesar K. Luo, MD, FACS, grew up in the Philadelphia area and attended the University of Rochester for college and medical school as a Rochester Early Medical Scholar, graduating from the School of Medicine with a Distinction in Community Service. As the child of an ophthalmologist, his fascination with ophthalmology and the retina only grew while at the University of Rochester, co-authoring in retina and neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Luo then returned to Philadelphia to complete an internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center, followed by his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital where he served as Co-Chief Resident. He then completed his training with a vitreoretinal fellowship with Associated Retinal Consultants, William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Dr. Luo is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and serves as an American Board of Ophthalmology Examiner. Dr. Luo is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists and is an inaugural Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
Dr. Luo has published numerous peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters with a particular interest in innovative vitreoretinal surgery and diabetic eye disease. He serves as an editor for Retina and Ophthalmology and lectures at local and international meetings. Dr. Luo has a strong interest in cutting-edge research serving as an investigator for multiple clinical trials in both medical and surgical retina. He also co-founded and serves as Chief Technology Officer for Lynthera Corporation, an ophthalmology startup focused on sustained drug delivery systems.
In addition to his medical training, Dr. Luo studied classical piano performance at the Eastman School of Music and now enjoys performing for his partner and three children. He lives in the Montclair area and while he revels in the wonders of the Bay Area, his dedication to Philadelphia sports teams is unwavering. Dr. Luo also enjoys being a dad, international travel, obstacle course racing, soccer, and downhill skiing.
