Vice President and Chief Medical & Quality Officer
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Isenberg oversees the quality and safety of care provided across Sutter Health’s integrated healthcare network. To assure that the care rendered by the professional medical staff and APCs meets strict quality, safety, and efficiency standards, he also oversees the Medical Affairs Committees of the Bay and Valley Boards—the governance level bodies responsible for credentialing. He also bears responsibility for all physician credentialing and the Credentialing Verification Office.
High reliability healthcare organizations succeed in delivering the highest quality of care using error prevention tools and other strategies, including close partnering. Importantly, the quality team and patient and family advisory team actively synergize. Similarly, allying with Information Services, the clinical informatics team gathers data, information and knowledge that enhance patient care and improves clinicians’ experiences through systems redesign.
Dr. Isenberg, a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, is immediate past chair of the board of directors of the Hospital Quality Institute of California, and co-chairs the Healthcare committee of the Bay Area Council. Within Sutter Health, he is chair of the board of directors of Sutter Medicare Direct.
Dr. Isenberg earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Michigan, and his doctorate in experimental pathology from UCSF. Following his postdoctoral years at the Gladstone Foundation for Cardiovascular Research, he earned his medical degree at UCSF, where he also completed his OB/Gyn residency and
