Since August 2021 to the present date, I have been blessed to be the clinical educator for two high-acuity units, Renal Telemetry Gold and Blue at Sutter Memorial Medical Center. As the clinical educator I have supervised and guided the nurses to increase their clinical and critical thinking skills. I have taught evidence-based nursing practices and skills to the staff and the newly hired staff. I been an active participant in multiple committees in the hospital.

As a clinical educator, I have been fortunate to lead, develop, and implement different projects for the unit and the hospital. Recently, I spearheaded the development and the implementation of a new fall sign for the hospital to allow the nurses to communicate interventions for their patients at risk for falls. Also, I lead a committee to implement two new process improvement practices in the hospital to prevent CAUTI infections. The first process improvement was the prevention of the reinsertion of the foley catheter and the second was to educate the need for the staff to always obtain a noncontaminated urine sample by removing the long-term catheter prior to obtaining it. The current ongoing process is with the newly graduate nurses (CNRs) for my department. I have worked with our CNR program coordinator to develop a tiered skills model for their orientation, changing the process from a patient-layered approached to a skills-layered approach. The skill model was initially trialed with 2 CNRs to solidify the skills and the outcomes. Now with this cohort it is being with all 5 of the Renal CNRs. Prior to launching it with the whole cohort, the preceptors needed training on this new process which was also exciting to teach them how to improve their preceptor skills and how to teach those critical thinking skills for the new nurse. I look forward to the outcomes from this cohorts and am blessed for my management team to be supportive of innovation and change.
