Alan Newman, M.D. is the Chair of Psychiatry at the Sutter Health - California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco, where he teaches in the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program. He has a long history as an educator, having directed two residency training programs, two forensic fellowship programs, and a medical student education program. He was previously on the faculties of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University, Georgetown University School of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His medical training was at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Tulane University School of Medicine.

Dr. Newman’s forensic practice is part of the Park Dietz & Associates expert witness group, where he specializes in medical malpractice, hospital safety issues, antigovernment extremism, technology issues, and criminal responsibility.
