Dr. Torbati is board-certified in emergency medicine has been a member of the Cedars-Sinai medical staff caring for patients for the past 22 years. He is the Co-Chair and Medical Director of the Cedars-Sinai Emergency Department and holds the Levin-Gordon Chair in Emergency Medicine in honor of Joel Geiderman MD.
In addition to numerous book chapters, abstracts and lectures, Dr. Torbati’s diverse research has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Journal of Emergency Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine, Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation, and Annals of Internal Medicine. His current areas of research include Long COVID, Geriatric Trauma and Emergency Models of Care, Social Determinants of Health, Hypothermia after Cardiac Arrest, and Unconscious Bias.
A prolific speaker, Dr. Torbati has lectured and presented on his areas of expertise at numerous events at local, regional, and national levels. He serves as a senior oral board examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) as well as the American College of Emergency Physician (ACEP) Quality and Patient Safety Committee. Dr. Torbati is a fellow with both the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Among his many awards are Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association Alumnus of the Year at Cedars-Sinai, America’s top Emergency Physicians with the Consumer Research Council of America, Top Doctors Selected by their Peers in Los Angeles Magazine, Super Doctors of Southern California, and Clinician of the Year Award with the Department of Emergency Medicine.
After earning his bachelor’s degree with honors in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. Torbati earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He completed an internship in emergency medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center and his residency in emergency medicine at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center where he also served as Chief Resident.
