Description:
This grand rounds provides healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to effectively implement the AAP 2023 obesity guidelines in clinical practice. Participants will learn about key evidence-based interventions, including Intensive Health Behavior and Lifestyle Treatment (IHBLT), pharmacotherapy, and metabolic surgery, and gain a clear understanding of their indications and applications. The course emphasizes practical strategies for integrating these interventions into everyday practice, tailored to specific patient populations and available resources. Additionally, participants will develop enhanced communication skills, learning how to discuss obesity treatment options with patients and families using person-first, stigma-free language. By the end of the activity, clinicians will be equipped to adopt these updated guidelines, fostering a comprehensive, supportive, and culturally sensitive approach to managing childhood obesity.
