Course Description
This one-hour enduring material course explores the growing concern of orthopedic care shortages in rural areas as physicians retire. With rural communities facing persistent disparities in access to care, this course investigates the differences between orthopedic physicians practicing in rural and urban settings. Participants will learn about the factors influencing surgeons' decisions to work in rural areas, including hospital economics, community support, and job satisfaction. The course will also highlight recruitment opportunities and strategies to address the challenges of ensuring continued patient access to orthopedic care in underserved areas, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.

Identify key factors that influence orthopedic physicians' decisions to practice in rural versus urban areas.
Analyze the impact of physician retirement on the availability of orthopedic care in rural communities.
Develop strategies for recruiting and retaining orthopedic surgeons in rural areas to address workforce shortages and improve access to care.
