Description: 

The Patient Experience Seminar is designed to support healthcare teams in improved communication with their patients. Topics address a clinician's role as a leader in their practice, give them tools for communicating with and understanding patients from diverse backgrounds, and helps them manage their own well-being including recognizing the signs of burnout that could impair care. The seminar includes didactic and interactive learning elements that help the learner practice new communication skills in a safe and supportive team environment. This one-day seminar is led by the Clinician Communication Coaches for Sutter Medical Group.

Learning Objectives

After completion of this course, learners should be able to:

1.) Detect what matters most to a patient, or their priority for the first visit, via utilization of the Patient Agenda.

2.) Utilize the PEV format to address challenging patient conversations in a compassionate yet professional manner.

3.) Discuss the role of leaders when communicating appreciation or “managing up” colleagues.
