0397-10_PAFMG_Synergy Summit_Using VR to Improve Patient and Clinician Well-Being_Live
Synergy Summit Description:
The Covid-19 pandemic, which began four years ago, has led to significant physical and mental burnout among healthcare workers. Despite the industry’s recovery, burnout persists due to factors such as resource shortages, insufficient education on best practices, unsustainable workloads, and a lack of support systems. Burnout can negatively impact patient care by reducing the quality of interactions between healthcare providers and patients, leading to poorer communication, loss of pertinent information, and increased likelihood of errors. This PAMF retreat offers a platform for physicians and healthcare providers to engage in educational medical activities, fostering a sense of community and belonging with the ultimate aim to improve patient care and satisfaction. A keynote address on “Transformative Care” will be featured along with various breakout sessions that will cover topics including virtual reality to reduce clinician burnout, wellbeing, cancer care, integrative medicine, narrative medicine, environmental health, and the link between fermented foods and a healthier gut microbiome. These educational activities are aimed to educate our healthcare providers and better equip them to educate their patients, empowering them with knowledge about their health conditions and treatments.
Presentation Description:
This innovative session explores the intersection of technology and well-being, focusing on the use of virtual reality (VR) to enhance clinician well-being. Participants will begin by discussing the critical importance of clinician well-being, understanding how it directly impacts patient care and overall healthcare outcomes. A key component of the session will be the assessment of the Take-Pause program, a VR-based intervention designed to alleviate pain and anxiety. Attendees will evaluate the program’s effectiveness through case studies and clinical data, gaining insights into its practical applications and benefits. Finally, the session will guide participants in developing methods to integrate the Take-Pause program into their practice. By learning how to effectively implement this high-tech solution, clinicians will be better equipped to improve their own well-being and, consequently, the quality of care they provide. Through a combination of lectures, interactive VR demonstrations, and group discussions, this session aims to empower clinicians with cutting-edge tools and strategies to enhance their well-being in a high-tech world.
