Description:
The Abusive Patient: How to Set Limits and Appropriate Boundaries Caring for patients with difficult behaviors can be extremely distressing for the health care team and can impact morale. This activity will seek to improve provider knowledge and skills in handling how to have these difficult situations. Specifically, providers will learn strategies to communicate with challenging patients who are abusive to providers. Attendees will learn how to set limits and appropriate boundaries that they can adopt and implement in their everyday practice to empower themselves in a challenging situation.

Learning Objectives
After Attending this Activity, Learners Should be Able to:
1. Appraise best practices in strategies to set limits and boundaries when patients are abusive.
2. Discuss potential ways of balancing different ethical goods and obligations.
3. Integrate best practice strategies to support ethical decision-making, staff concerns, and the patient’s experience when caring for abusive patients.
