Description: 

Patients continue to suffer from pressure ulcers (PUs), despite implementation of evidence-based pressure ulcer (PU) prevention protocols. Sutter Health nurses are lifelong learners, dedicated to finding creative, evidence-based ways to promote health and implement best practices in prevention pressure ulcers. Education is recognized as an integral component of pressure ulcer prevention.

Learning Objectives

After completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Demonstrate use of products and other strategies which will improve patient outcomes through hands on learning stations.

2. Practice safe patient handling and other strategies which will preserve skin integrity and prevent staff injuries.

3. Demonstrate correct equipment selection and application to patient.

4. Describe a complete skin assessment and state what should be documented regarding skin issues.

5. Evaluate best practices in pressure ulcer prevention by putting theory into practice in order to prevent this problem.
