Description:
This activity is a continuing education journal club which is used to facilitate an evidence-based approach to problem solving, as a tool for informing guideline development and to enable an exchange of insights regarding clinical problems related to degenerative lumbar pathologies. In this session, the physician team will be sharing best practice on treatment approaches intended to improve outcomes after elective lumbar surgeries.

Learning Objectives
After participation in the 1/8/24 session, learners should be able to:
1. Apply strategies to critically analyze and descriptively evaluate the medical literature relevant to specific specialties.
2. Identify which patients to screen for osteoporosis and who may need further evaluation of their low bone density.
3. Discuss when and how to treat low bone density based on risk factor stratification.
4. Demonstrate understanding of the different therapeutic options, including recommendations for drug holidays, for degenerative lumbar pathologies.
