An older lady and her brain

0148_Sutter Neurosciences Grand Rounds_Delirum Neurophysiology_Live

July 27, 2023

Description:

Delirium is an indication of significant neurophysiologic disruption and is associated with many short- and long-term deleterious outcomes, including an increased risk of mortality. However, the diversity in clinical presentations and neurophysiological imbalances suggest that the current “one-size-fits all approach” may be misguided. This presentation is both an in-depth review of what is currently known about delirium’s impact on both neurons and neural networks as well as an exploration of emerging evidence on new approaches to delirium that can be considered based on this knowledge.

Target Audience

Target Audience:

Physicians (MD or DO)

Physician Assistant (PA)

Learning Objectives

After completion of this course, learners will demonstrate the following competencies related to Delirium Neurophysiology:

• Describe delirium diagnostic criteria.

• Identify common risk factors and precipitants of delirium.

• Describe neuroanatomic correlates of delirium.

• Discuss how to leverage advances in neuroscience to better understand delirium pathophysiology.
