0135_SMCS_Workplace Violence Prevention for Physicians_Live
CALOSHA defines Workplace violence as: “Any act of violence or threat of violence that occurs at the worksite.” Additionally, the threat or use of physical force against an employee that results in, or has a high likelihood of resulting in, injury, psychological trauma, or stress, regardless of whether the employee sustains and injury; and incident involving the threat or use of a firearm or other dangerous weapons, including the use of common objects as weapons, regardless of whether the employee sustains an injury. The impact of workplace violence can range from psychological trauma to physical injury, or even death. This one-hour workplace violence prevention course is designed to help physicians better understand the scope and nature of violence in the workplace and strategies to help mitigate the risk for patients and staff.

Learning Objectives
Learning Objectives - After Attending This Activity Learners Should Be Able To:
1. Identify early signs of verbal and physical signs of violence.
2. Apply techniques to prevent aggressive behavior prior to escalation of violence.
3. Discuss when to contact security and when de-escalation strategies are not likely to be effective.
4. Implement continuous communication within teams, units, and hospital management.
5. Demonstrate de-escalation strategies and techniques can prevent incidents of violence.
6. Commit to identifying and reporting all workplace violence incidents.
7. Describe and locate Employee Assistance Program and the Confidential Message line.
