Session Description

This activity is a journal club which is used to facilitate an evidence based approach to problem solving, as a tool for informing guideline development and to enable an exchange of insights regarding clinical problems related to degenerative lumbar pathologies. In this session, the physician team will be sharing best practice on treatment approaches intended to improve outcomes after elective lumbar surgeries.

Learning Objectives

SERIES Learning Objectives:

1. Apply strategies to critically analyze and descriptively evaluate the medical literature relevant to specific specialties.

2. Review, analyze, and discuss current peer reviewed journal articles on topics relevant to multiple specialties with the goal of improving quality of care for patients.

 

SESSION Learning Objectives:

1. Analyze the strength of evidence supporting minimally invasive surgical approaches for elective lumbar spine surgery in terms of EBL. LOS, cost, and complications.

2. Discuss additional contributing factors to lumbar spine surgery outcomes such as POD #0 ambulation and SDoH to support development of a strategy to implement practice change aligned with these recommendations.
