Course Description:
Palliative care is an approach to care that you may want to access at any stage of a serious illness. It helps you manage symptoms and address concerns that matter most to you. Understanding the patient's perspective of the illness and expressing empathy are key features of patient-centered communication. With the current pace of life and stressors, we often forget to give importance to these features. This activity will highlight those and will also present an actual patient who will be interviewed on her experience seeking treatment at PAMF.

Learning Objectives
After attending this activity, learners should be able to:
1. Discuss the grief process from the family perspective.
2. Summarize the role of emotion in navigating serious illness.
3. Explain the role of Palliative Care in supporting patients and families.
4. Demonstrate best practices for empathetic communication that is responsive to the changing needs of patients and families throughout the trajectory of their illness.
