Course Description
This pharmacy grand rounds session will review pharmacologic management of patients with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infections. The presentation will also discuss controversial practices involving the use of various antibiotics as part of the treatment regimen and current recommendations on best practices.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners should be able to:
1. Identify patients at risk of shiga toxin-producing E. coli.
2. Interpret diagnostic assessment tools to confirm shiga toxin-producing E. coli patients at high risk of developing hemolytic uremic syndrome.
3. Summarize the treatment of shiga toxin-producing E. coli and hemolytic uremic syndrome.
4. Apply best practice recommendations for the pharmacologic management of shiga toxin-producing E. coli, including avoidance of antibiotics.
