Description: 

The Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Case Conference consists of medical professionals who come together to evaluate the appropriate treatment for Parkinson's/ movement disorder patients which may include deep brain stimulation treatment. We evaluate outcome measures at regular intervals including:

1) Criteria for appropriate patient selection

2) Surgical placement

3) Successful programming and ongoing monitoring. We use a multi-disciplinary interprofessional approach to learn from, with, and about one another and gain consensus about individualized care plan recommendations.

Learning Objectives: 

After Attending This Activity Learners Should Be Able To:

1. Evaluate the potential risks and benefits for patients considering neuromodulation using a multidisciplinary approach.

2. Recommend therapy and alternatives to the patients that are considering neuromodulation.

3. Critique short- and long-term neuromodulation outcomes such as surgical placement and subsequent successful programming of the device.

4. Recognize and discuss potential implicit biases or social drivers of health outcomes so as to minimize disparities.
