Dean R. Sobcoviak – CPP, CHPA has over 25 years of experience in executive, senior management & consulting roles in the healthcare security industry with a successful track record of leading management teams to generate exceptional service delivery, productivity, and innovation.  As an acknowledged & court recognized industry expert, Dean employs best practice techniques to develop teams & programs that help hospitals and healthcare providers prevent and mitigate aggression & violence in their facilities to ensure the safety and security of their staff, patients, visitors, and physicians. 

Currently Dean is the Vice President-Chief Protective Services Officer for Sutter Health, one of the nation's leading not-for-profit comprehensive healthcare networks consisting of 25 acute care hospitals (~4,500 beds), surgery centers, physician organizations, medical research facilities, home health, and hospice programs comprised of ~58,000 care-giving professionals fully dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of more than 100 communities across Northern California.

The Chief Protective Services Officer is the leader of the system-wide physical security function responsible for physical security strategy, physical security architecture, global function oversight, and the talent of the 1200-person front line Security Team across all Sutter locations to optimize the safety of Sutter’s people, property, assets and interests. Principle accountabilities include the development & management of security standards, security policies, programs and guidelines, and the implementation of monitoring systems necessary to ensure organizational policy & standards compliance. Other responsibilities include regulatory compliance, ongoing risk assessments, and the implementation of industry recognized best practices.

Dean served as an Incident Commander & helped lead Sutter Health’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic and was selected by the Sutter Health Executive Leadership team to participate in the Sutter Health Leadership Academy Program – Cohort 2023.

Dean is the past president of the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Denver Chapter, past president of the ASIS International Healthcare Security Council, and current member of the IAHSS Guidelines Council.
