Description:
Perinatal mental health disorders are the most common complication of pregnancy and, when untreated, are associated with increased rates of OB complications along with causing social and economic harms. Evidence-based tools exist to screen for and treat perinatal mental health disorders. Unfortunately, many providers who care for perinatal patients lack the education and knowledge to appropriately treat mental health disorders in pregnancy and lactation. This presentation will give providers skills and knowledge to appropriately recognize and treat perinatal mental health disorders and how/when to refer to a specialist.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this activity, learners will be able to:
1) Recognize the landscape of perinatal mental health disorders.
2) Describe the risks of untreated perinatal mental health disorders and identify treatment options.
3) Consider a risk framework for counseling patients about psychiatric medication use during pregnancy and lactation.
