Fernando Teixeira, MD FRCPS MS OM
Dr. Teixeira graduated from the University of Toronto, obtaining his MD in 1997. He is a fellowship-trained academic emergency physician specializing in trauma and resuscitative medicine. Triple-boarded certified in Canada, the United States, and Europe, Dr. Teixeira has developed curricular paradigms at the undergraduate level by employing the conceptual framework of the Can Meds proficiencies, milestones, and entrustable professional activities (EPAs). His training is founded on the primacy of patient-centered care, evidence-based medicine, and the importance of the social determinants of health in contributing to improved population health outcomes.
Dr. Teixeira's specialized training in trauma, acute care medicine, and mass casualty organizational protocols has led him to serve as the physician lead for several high-profile events. His experience includes leading medical teams for Pope John Paul II, the Rolling Stones, and serving as the White House liaison physician for the G20 summit of 2010.
With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Teixeira is one of only a handful of physicians worldwide with technical and clinical expertise in epi- and pandemic response planning concerning SARS coronavirus management. His background is in the bio-physiology of human labor. His research in the field led to the detection of PGHS-2 (COX-2) in humans.
