Lauren Marasa, Medical Director of ECT Services, Sutter Center for Psychiatry
Dr. Lauren Marasa is a highly accomplished, double board-certified psychiatrist, specializing in both
interventional and forensic psychiatry. She initially studied biology and Spanish at the University of
Alabama where she graduated from the Honors College, Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Marasa then attended
the University of South Carolina School of Medicine where she graduated at the top of her medical
school class, Cum Laude. Initially, Dr. Marasa set out to become a neurosurgeon and matched into her
first choice of residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. However,
after two years of neurosurgery training, Dr. Marasa found she craved more time and personal
connection with her patients. She decided to change specialties and completed four years of training in
general psychiatry, where she went on to serve as Chief Resident. Upon graduating from residency, she
then completed a Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis.
Currently, Dr. Marasa maintains a busy clinical and forensic psychiatry practice. She is the Co-Founder
and CEO of NorCal Neurostimulation, an interventional psychiatric practice specializing in the use of
neuromodulation for those with treatment resistant mental illness. Concurrently, she is the Medical
Director of ECT Services at Sutter Center for Psychiatry where she manages both inpatients and
outpatients using a variety of treatment modalities including ECT, TMS, and IV Ketamine. Although Dr.
Marasa no longer practices neurosurgery, she finds the results of these interventional psychiatric
treatments can be just as dramatic, amazing, and life-changing than those more invasive surgical
treatment modalities. When not in the clinic or in the hospital setting, you will find Dr. Marasa in the
courtroom serving as an expert witness and testifying in a variety of civil and criminal matters related to
psychiatry and the law. Dr. Marasa believes the most qualified expert witnesses come from being the
finest of psychiatrists. Although Dr. Marasa has presented her work in the fields of interventional and
forensic psychiatry at both National and International conferences, Dr. Marasa believes, “No one cares what you know, until they know that you care” and places her patients’ care above all.
