Lisa Tank, Lisa Tank, M.D., F.A.C.P, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, HUMC Chief Medical Officer, North Region, Hackensack Meridian Health
Board-certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine, Dr. Tank serves as senior vice president, chief medical officer of Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center and and chief medical officer of the North Region of Hackensack Meridian Health. A proven leader in providing transformational, value-based care, Dr. Tank has led innovative clinical programs across multiple care settings in medical and surgical specialties. Her oversight includes regulatory affairs, medical staff, and clinical programs.
As a chief medical officer, Dr. Tank has built a robust department of Medical Affairs. She leads her team with a vision and strategy of creating a value-based transformative health delivery system across the continuum with improved patient outcomes, augmenting health maintenance to create clinical pathways. She serves as an associate professor at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. Offering dual expertise as a highly skilled administrator and a deeply dedicated physician, her tenure at Hackensack University Medical Center has also included house calls, skilled nursing facilities, hospital and consultative services.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Tank served as chief of the Division of Geriatrics and is the past program director of the Geriatrics Fellowship Program. She has served as director of Medical Affairs and was appointed vice president, Medical Affairs. She led the way for Hackensack University Medical Center to become the first hospital in the nation to earn a Disease Specific Certification in Delirium, the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal, and the first geriatrics certification of its kind in the country, and attained a level 3 patient-centered medical home certification.
In 2021, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) honored Dr. Tank with a “Hometown Hero” Award for her guidance and leadership of medical staff through the pandemic — developing critical COVID-19 patient care guidelines to treat the virus and establishing a program for families to connect with each patient via iPads. Dr. Tank has also received the following recognitions: ROI-NJ, Influencers: People of Color Honoree; Becker’s Hospital Review Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know; Becker’s Hospital Review Physician Leaders to Know; the Hackensack Regional Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen Award, and American Geriatrics Society Clinician of the Year.
A fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP), she was elected council member for the ACP New Jersey Chapter and represented the organization by presenting physician issues before Congress in Washington, DC. She is a certified medical director of Long-Term Care Medicine, is widely published, delivers presentations, and lectures extensively in her field. Her research projects include the IDEAS Study, Imaging Dementia-Evidence for Amyloid Scanning. Dr. Tank was featured in a Becker’s Hospital Review podcast and published on COVID-19 patient care and management. Dr. Tank is also a Greater New York Hospital Association/United Hospital Fund Clinical Quality Fellowship (GNYHA) fellow, certified medical director for nursing homes, and is currently enrolled in an MBA program at George Washington University.
Dr. Tank provides oversight to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care that is evidence-based in the fullest expression of professionalism. Her responsibilities extend to every patient and all credentialed staff performing in complete regulatory compliance with Quality and Safety as key components. Under her leadership the academic medical center offers residencies in several areas of specialty, conducts extensive research, is engaged in numerous clinical trials and, this year, opened the Helena Theurer Pavilion, a comprehensive, state-of-the-art patient care, treatment, diagnostic, and surgical tower. Construction continued through COVID-19 to address widely-reported pandemic-related gaps in patients seeking care, meeting needs and delivering exceptional care.
Dr. Tank’s leadership roles include: board member of the Visiting Home Services of New Jersey, VHSNJ At Home, LLC and the Vanguard ASC. She also serves as associate professor at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, has served on many hospital and network committees, conducts research, and is widely published in her field. In 2023, she will moderate a key session at the American Delirium Society Conference. Dr. Tank is board-certified geriatrician and internist, fellow of the American College of Physicians, Greater New York Hospital Association/United Hospital Fund Clinical Quality Fellowship fellow, and certified medical director for nursing homes.
