Xiuhua Bozarth
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology, Division of Child Neurology at Seattle Children’s Hospital and University of Washington, and a Principal Investigator of the Center of Integrative Brain Research (CIBR) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI). As a child neurologist and epileptologist, my clinical expertise is in diagnosing and managing children with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE).
My research focuses on investigating genetic mutations causing DEE. During the last few years, I have assembled a multidisciplinary team to characterize the molecular features of X-linked gene-associated early onset DEE. Another focus of my research is aimed to find optimal treatment options for children with intractable epilepsy and super-refractory status epilepticus. New generation anti-epileptic medications (AEDs) have less side effects compared to the old generation AEDs, but the efficacy is not better than the old generation. New generation anti-epileptic medications (AEDs) have less side effects compared to the old generation AEDs, but the efficacy is not better than the old generation. I studied the efficacy of rufinamide and genotype correlation in patients with intractable epilepsy. In addition, I also worked on refractory status epilepticus and studying the impact of continuous EEG monitoring on critically ill children.
