Dr. Herasevich's long-term interest is applied clinical informatics in fast-paced hospital environments, such as the ICU and OR. He designs, develops and tests clinical informatics tools in acute care setting such as clinical data representation (novel patient-centered EMR), decision support and alerting systems for early detection of critical syndromes and hospital-wide surveillance. He architected data warehouses in support of clinical decision-making, reporting and population health research and outcomes research. Dr. Herasevich's career-long focus is integrating those tools into operational settings. He has longstanding interest in information security and developed recent interest in computer vision.
Training in medicine, medical informatics, and clinical research allow him work toward to enhanced patient safety and effectiveness of practice in the fields of critical care medicine and anesthesiology.
Dr. Herasevich is co-investigator and informatics expert for a past and ongoing federally and industry funded projects totaling more than $35 million in research support. He is co-inventor of number of technologies including AWARE platform, resulting in technologies commercialization.
As a part of education effort, Dr. Herasevich was initiator one of the first in USA Clinical Informatics Fellowship program and served it as Associate Program Director. He is appointed with Full faculty privileges in Mayo Graduate School, developed Informatics Curriculum for Mayo Medical School, CCaTS and Master in Medical AI programs. His mentorship record included multiple mentees including PhD, master students residents, clinical and research fellows.
Dr. Herasevich is Fellow of American College of Critical Care Medicine, Fellow of American Medical Informatics Association, Fellow of HIMSS and Senior IEEE member and active within informatics societies serving on a number of committees including MN HIMSS, SCAI Board of Directors.
