Kimberly Johnson, MD
Dr. Kimberly Johnson recently graduated from a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. During this fellowship, a growing understanding of post-intensive care syndrome, including its adverse psychological sequela, served as an impetus for research to improve these outcomes and identify ways to enhance the care of critically ill patients. Through increased appreciation for the role of ICU delirium and false memory formation as contributors to these outcomes, research efforts focused on elevating the humanization of the ICU experience for patients, specifically by finding ways to provide support through communication. With the mentorship of Dr. Karnatovskaia, Kimberly has completed a recently published project utilizing ICU diaries in a novel fashion. She also helped to initiate an ongoing study to provide psychological support through Mp3 audio recordings to critically ill patients. Kimberly received her medical degree from the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Wisconsin- Madison. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency and is now finishing a Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. In the future, Kimberly looks forward to returning to the ICU environment to work full-time as a critical care physician.
