Kaitlyn Thompson, B.A.
Kaitlyn Crutchley Thompson is a third-year medical student at University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine. Kaitlyn graduated with highest distinction from the University of Iowa in May of 2021 where she studied mathematics and biology and worked as a research assistant in the Shinozaki Lab, Department of Psychiatry. In 2022, Kaitlyn was selected to participate in the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research MSARF fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Her research has primarily focused on delirium in geriatric hospital inpatients and post-operative delirium in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. She is interested in helping develop improved diagnostic tools and investigating potential biomarkers of delirium. She has played a key role in bioinformatics data analysis for several research studies with epigenetics and novel bispectral EEG, and she has been already a co-first author for articles published in high impact peer review journals including Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience and British Journal of Psychiatry. Kaitlyn received the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Trainee Travel Award in 2021 and presented at the American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting in 2022. Kaitlyn has not yet solidified her specialty choice, but plans to continue delirium research throughout her career as a physician.
