Dr. Flavia Garcez is a professor of Internal Medicine at the Federal University of Sergipe and a clinical researcher in the Division of Geriatrics at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her research is focused on delirium and cognitive disturbances in older adults. In 2019, Dr. Garcez received the Junior Investigation Award from NIDUS (Network for Investigation of Delirium:Unifying Scientists) for a research project to explore the association between delirium and gut microbiota in acutely ill older adults.
She co-founded the Brazilian Intervention Group Against Delirium (BRIGADE) as an initiative to improve research and clinical awareness of delirium in Brazil. Her main goal as a physician is to disseminate the appropriate care for older adults with delirium and dementia.
