D Catherine Fuchs, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, MD, DFAACAP

 I am a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Professor of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I have expertise in both General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) and have consistently collaborated with the Vanderbilt Public Health team on population-based studies of medication use in children. I have extensive experience in education as the former Training Director for the Vanderbilt CAP Fellowship. As the former Division Chief for Vanderbilt CAP I had responsibility for supporting the development of clinical and research services in the division. My clinical work is at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt where I provide consultation to children with a wide range of mental health needs. My clinical research includes development of screening and assessment tools for patients in the pediatric intensive care unit to monitor mental status. I co-developed the Pediatric Confusion and Assessment Method for the ICU (pCAM-ICU) and the preschool version (psCAM-ICU) with the pediatric team to ensure appropriate assessment for pediatric delirium. I currently work with the Pediatric Delirium team and the CIBS Center at Vanderbilt to assess pediatric patients and their parents for medical trauma related to acute illness and delirium. I am a member of the Physically Ill Child Committee for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and chair the subcommittee on development of educational modules for teaching of pediatric delirium. My expertise spans outpatient, inpatient, and consultation liaison psychiatry from infancy through adulthood. Finally, I am the Faculty Co-Chair for the Admissions Committee for the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
