0363_SHVGR_Losing Sleep: Insomnia Strategies for Older Adults_Live

July 17, 2024

Description

Insomnia is not a normal part of the aging process, yet many older adults experience disappointment with the quantity and quality of sleep they receive. Older adults tend to have more challenges with sleep maintenance compared to younger adults which results in reductions in total sleep time and sleep efficiency. Onset of insomnia, in all of its forms, affects not only the patient the caregiver as well. It is important to understand the complications insomnia can present in elderly people. This presentation aims to instruct the learner base with valuable information on both nonpharmacological treatments vs. the use of pharmacological agents to induce sleep in geriatric patients.
