Sexually active people can get chlamydia, a common, treatable, sexually transmitted disease (STD). There is a gap in chlamydia screening rates in females ages 16 years and older in our general pediatric clinic sites which can lead to under diagnosis of infections in affected females, of whom >84% are estimated to be asymptomatic. Females with untreated infections are at risk for pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, increased risk of HIV, and infertility. This activity will address chlamydia screening rates in females ages 16 and older in general pediatric clinic sites - a metric that PAMF has been underperforming according to the quality dashboard. PAMF has instituted an opt-out screening across multiple general pediatric clinic sites in an attempt to increase the chlamydia screening rates. The goal is to increase the chlamydia screening rate in females ages 16 and older in Palo Alto Medical Foundation general pediatric clinic sites by 5% in 2024. PAMF will use the outcome measure of chlamydia screening rate, process measure of the number of patients who postpone or opt-out of screening, and balance measure of provider satisfaction to inform the quality improvement process. Completion criteria includes 12 months of data collection and process improvement with an emphasis on outcome measures of improving chlamydia screening rates.
