Michael Reznik, MD
Dr. Reznik is an Assistant Professor of Neurology & Neurosurgery at Brown University’s Alpert Medical School and an attending neurointensivist at Rhode Island Hospital. His primary research interest is the study of delirium in stroke and neurocritical care patients, and he has built a diverse clinical research program that has resulted in studies published in Stroke, Neurology, and Critical Care Medicine. Among his scientific accomplishments, he delineated the phenomenology of delirium in patients with stroke; developed the first delirium screening tool specifically for use in neurocritical care settings; and elucidated the mediating effects of delirium on post-stroke outcomes, both via increased rates of withdrawal of care and decreased utilization of post-acute rehabilitation. His ongoing work also incorporates investigations into cognitive outcomes as well as the pathophysiologic basis of post-stroke delirium, including neuroimaging-based studies on the relationship between delirium, chronic microvascular disease, and acute inflammation. In addition, he has studied rest-activity patterns associated with delirium using wearable activity monitors and has also explored neurophysiologic differences between stroke patients with and without delirium using EEG and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS).
