Rose Penfold, Dr Rose S. Penfold, BA (Hons), BM BCh, MPH, MRCP. Edinburgh Delirium Research Group, Ageing and Health, Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK
Dr Rose Penfold is a medical registrar specializing in Geriatric Medicine and a Wellcome Trust PhD Fellow at the Usher Institute, University of Edinburgh, supervised by Professor Alasdair MacLullich. Dr Penfold obtained her medical degree from the University of Oxford, before completing an MPH in Health Policy at Harvard University and an Academic Clinical Fellowship at King's College London, where she undertook research studying cognition in older adults following COVID-19 infection. Her PhD focuses on how multimorbidity influences delirium risk and how delirium influences outcomes in individuals with multimorbidity. She is using large-scale routine clinical and national audit datasets, linking primary care data with hospital electronic medical records to better understand risk factors preceding and outcomes following hospitalization with delirium in exemplar patient groups. Findings will help to better identify those at risk of adverse outcomes, enhance our understanding of prognosis and inform development of models of care to mitigate against adverse outcomes for hospitalized patients with delirium.
