Benjamin Chapin, MD
I earned my medical degree from the University of Iowa and completed a residency in neurology at the University of Kansas. I then completed a fellowship in cognitive and behavioral neurology at the University of Florida, followed by a research fellowship with the UF Health Perioperative Cognitive Anesthesia Network (PeCAN). I currently serve a dual appointment as assistant professor in the department of anesthesiology at the University of Florida and in the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center at the Malcom Randall VA.
My research interests include postoperative delirium and how delirium accelerates dementia. As part of the Department of Anesthesiology’s commitment to researching perioperative brain wellness and anesthesia interactions, I have an outpatient clinic where I treat patients who have experienced postoperative cognitive disorders. I also have a clinic at the VA where I work with a multidisciplinary frailty clinic to evaluate and manage risk-factors for postoperative cognitive disorders in older veterans.
