Sophia Wang, MD, MS
Sophia Wang, MD, MS, FAPA, Core Leader, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Wesley P. Martin Endowed Scholar for Alzheimer's Education. Dr. Wang completed her M.D. and general psychiatry residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After residency, she pursued a VA Neurosciences Research Fellowship with a focus on neurodegenerative disorders at the James J. Peters VAMC affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine and then a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She became a co-investigator in the OREC at the NIA-designated Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (IADRC) in 2015 and was promoted to OREC Leader in 2020. In 2021, she was elected to a three-year term on the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) ORE Core Steering Committee and currently serves as the past chair (2022-2023). Her awards include the 2018 American Psychiatric Association Hartford-Jeste Future Leaders in Geriatric Psychiatry and the 2020 Honorable Mention American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) Barry Lebowitz Early Career Research Award. One of Dr. Wang's primary research focuses is ICU Delirium. She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of an NIA-funded K23 career development grant titled "The Role Of ICU Delirium And Vascular Risk Factors In The Development Of Post ICU Cognitive Impairment And Dementia." Her recent research explores connections between ICU Delirium inflammatory biomarkers and ADRD, pharmacological management of ICU Delirium, and the role of ICU Delirium in the development of Post-ICU Cognitive Impairment and Dementia. She also has an NIA-funding to examine ADRD pathophysiology of COVID-19 ICU delirium survivors.
