Prior to fellowship, as a primary care resident, Dr. Lubinski developed an interest in delirium stemming from the multiple patients with persistent hospital delirium she saw in her primary care clinic. As her interest in the topic expanded, she began distinguish herself as a medical educator, teaching her peers about the identification and management of delirium in the outpatient setting. During fellowship, while she developed additional interests including the use of telehealth in the care of older adults, she remained committed to improving the care of patients experiencing delirium. Now, as an academic geriatrician at BIDMC, Dr. Lubinski has brought together her interests by developing a new Post Hospitalization Delirium Clinic that offers in person and virtual visits for patients recently discharged from the hospital who experienced delirium.
In addition to focusing on enhancing the care for these patients, she also strives to educate other physicians about the unique needs of older adults. As a illustration of her commitment to broadening her expertise in medical education and the knowledge of others, she was selected for the coveted Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education. Through the fellowship, she is developing a curriculum for internal medicine residents regarding the care of older adults with delirium and dementia in the outpatient setting which includes an opportunity to rotate in the Post Hospitalization Delirium Clinic. As Director of Resident Geriatric Education at BIDMC, Dr. Lubinski nurtures compassionate physicians who appreciate the complexity of caring for older adults and embrace the profound privilege of caring for them.
