Jennifer Clay is a distinguished nurse leader with a passion for geriatric care and nursing innovation.

Education: Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ontario, Canada. 

Career Highlights: With an extensive background in healthcare, Jennifer began her journey at UC San Diego Health, where she honed her skills across various specialties including oncology, transplant, orthopedics, and critical care units. 

Specialization in Geriatric Care: In 2017, Jennifer was handpicked to join the prestigious Gary and Mary West Senior Emergency Care Unit as a Geriatric Emergency Nurse Initiative Expert (GENIE). Today, she proudly serves as the Lead GENIE, advocating for geriatric-focused care to empower seniors to age with dignity and independence. 

Contributions to Nursing: Jennifer's dedication extends beyond the bedside. She is a published author, with her work featured in the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Connection Magazine and the UCSD Journal of Nursing. Her research and projects, such as "Nurses Empowered to Redesign Their Workflow to Decrease Hospital Readmissions: GENIE RN's," have reshaped nursing practices and garnered recognition across the healthcare community. 

Leadership and Recognition: Jennifer's leadership prowess shines through her role as the recipient of the 2021 Nurse of the Year award at UC San Diego Health. Her commitment to excellence and innovation project to Reduce Hemolyzed Blood Specimens was adopted throughout the organization as the best practice.
