Jeremy Swartzberg, MD
Jeremy Swartzberg, MD practices both Hospital Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the Kaiser Permanente (KP) East Bay Medical Center in Oakland and Richmond, CA. He completed residency at the UCLA-Olive View EM/IM Program, where he was Chief Resident. His interest in seeing patients across the care continuum is what led Jeremy to train and double board in both Emergency and Internal Medicine, and what drew him to KP where he has the opportunity to practice in both fields simultaneously. Jeremy developed and led the Observation Area for the medical center from 2013 to 2019, which was a natural fit for his interest in transitions of care and creating workflows and protocols to improve care. Since 2019, Jeremy has worked to develop Geriatric Emergency Departments (GEDs) in KP N. California. He worked with the San Francisco KP Med Center team to procure a grant to implement a Level 1 accredited GED and is currently the co-clinical lead for GED development regionwide.
Before becoming a physician, Jeremy was a teacher; first he taught English in Chile and then was a middle school teacher in Los Angeles. His love of teaching has carried through to today, teaching medical students in the KP-UCSF "KLIC" program and as an attending for residents in the ED and on the hospital wards. Although being a physician and a teacher are central to Jeremy's identity, at his core is his family (his wife and two daughters). Nothing makes Jeremy happier than being in nature with his family and friends, like backpacking in the Sierras or hiking the East Bay trails.
