Ursula Boynton, M.D., Chief Medical Executive of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center (ABSMC), is the lead physician responsible for medical affairs and other clinical oversight of the hospital. She works with her Executive Team to play an integral role in the administration of the hospital. She partners with the medical staff to lead, facilitate and collaborate with the various clinical components of the hospital healthcare delivery system with the goal of assuring excellent patient care. At the heart of her passion for healthcare is a drive for high quality patient care and safety.
Dr. Boynton has a substantial amount of medical leadership experience. Most recently, she served as Chief Medical Executive at Sutter Delta Medical Center, 2018-2019. Previously, she was the Administrative Medical Director for five years at ABSMC. Dr. Boynton launched her career within Sutter Health as a medical hospitalist at the Alta Bates campus in Berkeley in 2000. She has dedicated her career to advancing the clinical care for patients of the east bay community.
Dr. Boynton is also a member of the Sutter Care at Home Board of Directors which provides a comprehensive range of home health and hospice services to residents in 27 Northern California counties.
Ursi was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Berkeley, California. After graduating from Berkeley High School, she attended college at New York University before studying medicine at Albert Einstein Medical School in New York. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at UCSF.
