Malini Madanahalli, ABIM Board certification in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine
My journey into medicine started purely out of curiosity, being that I am from a family of Engineers, Physics and Math majors and Finance majors. I did my Medical school training in India and came to the US soon after graduating from Medical School. After Residency training in Internal Medicine, I moved to Bay Area CA in early 1999 and took my 1st job here at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration. I must say my journey into Geriatrics started then in August of 1999. I was practicing Geriatrics in the Menlo division of PAVA for 5 years before I did my fellowship training in Geriatrics. My fellowship was at the Stanford-VA program. Soon after my fellowship, I joined Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where I worked for almost 15 years. The main focus of Geriatrics practice at SCVMC was primary care Geriatrics. I did have a small practice in the skilled nursing setting as well. Early in my career at SCVMC, I also did ward attending rotations. And throughout my time there we had the great pleasure of mentoring IM residents in our Geriatrics clinics through their Geriatrics rotations.
I moved to PAMF in early 2020, just before the pandemic. I have learned and grown a lot since joining the family I now have here at PAMF Geriatrics. I enjoy the consultative clinic practice that I am a part of, and find great pleasure in being a member of the team of providers caring for our elderly and most vulnerable. I also do skilled nursing practice and I draw a great deal of wonderful experience from that arena of my practice as well.
I have come to realize that I am an experiential person and I seek and enjoy one on one human interactions. I draw from people's stories and their experiences and cherish relationships. There are many other hats I wear as a person, and being a Geriatrician is a very important part of me.
