The Preceptor Foundations Course was developed in response to the need to increase the number of prepared preceptors at Sutter Health and is designed to provide a standardized approach in preparing providers for their role as preceptors. The preceptor role has been in existence for many years and helps promote success of the new employee in the workplace, while enhancing learning outcomes and creating a more supportive work environment and an increase in job satisfaction.

Learning Objectives
1. Develop clear understanding of the preceptor role in order to consistently apply strategies to acclimate and coach preceptees in the workplace.
2. Using adult active learning principles, create and implement individualized learning plans with preceptees.
3. Demonstrate consistent usage of standard evaluation forms and documentation of competency verification.
4. Apply appropriate leadership styles, using timely and constructive feedback, to support the development of each preceptee.
