There are ethical considerations that need to be weighed prior to recommending an elective orthopedic procedure to individuals with Dementia. The need for pre-procedure cognitive testing and multidisciplinary team meetings with the patients and their support systems are imperative in determining the appropriate interventions that are most beneficial for the patient’s lifestyle

After Attending this Activity, Learners Should be Able to:
- Describe the ethical considerations in elective orthopedic procedures in patients with dementia
- Explain the need for cognitive evaluation prior to determining candidacy for elective orthopedic procedures
- Demonstrate the need for interprofessional collaboration to optimize post-operative outcomes and recovery in patients with dementia
