0299_SHVGR_Perinatal Opioid Use Disorder_EM
Description:
Managing perinatal opioid use disorder is critically important for both maternal and infant health. If left untreated, opioid use disorder during pregnancy can lead to a range of adverse outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, neonatal abstinence syndrome, and even maternal overdose or death. Proper management, including medication-assisted treatment, helps reduce the risk of these complications by stabilizing the mother's opioid use and supporting her overall health. Effective management not only improves the chances of a healthier pregnancy but also minimizes the risk of withdrawal symptoms in newborns and supports better long-term developmental outcomes for the child.
