Session Description: 

Multidisciplinary Care Conferences are an evidence-based approach to improve the monitoring and care of oncology patients by providing multidisciplinary collaboration in care plan development for the treatment of complex cancer patients. This regularly scheduled series meets the ACoS CoC Standard 2.5 to promote Optimal Resources for Cancer Care with interprofessional and interdisciplinary representation from surgery, pathology, radiology, radiation oncology, and medical oncology including specialists such as oncology nurses, nurse navigators, cancer registrars, clinical research associates, psychosocial providers, rehabilitation providers, and other allied professionals. Components of the multidisciplinary discussion include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical and/or pathological stage, including stage group when available.
  • Treatment planning using evidence-based national treatment guidelines.
  • Options and eligibility for research study or clinical trial enrollment services (where applicable).
  • Options and eligibility for genetic testing services (where applicable).
  • Options and eligibility for supportive care services (where applicable).

Learning Objectives- After Attending this Activity, Learners Should be Able to:

1. Apply current evidence-based practices to provide improved outcomes for patients diagnosed with or currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

2. Implement treatment plans agreed upon by consensus at the conference to their cancer patients.

3. Critically evaluate cancer care management based upon interactions with colleagues and patient shared decision-making opportunities, including communicating shared perspectives, expertise, and experiences.

4. Identify available clinical trials that oncology patients may be eligible to participate in.
